Danielle recently moved to Davis, California. Yes, she is a California girl. But before she officially moved into her new place, she toured the US visiting friends. She stayed with Hallie and me from October 22nd to October 31st. It was awesome. We practiced, wrote two songs and recorded scratch tracks for both.
It’s been way too long since Danielle or I posted a song. There have been a lot of changes for Bicycles in Flight lately. Danielle accepted a new job at University of California Davis and will be moving there soon. She’s visiting friends all over the country before she moves into her new place. I’m ...
I’ve wanted to write a song with my iPad for a while now. So tonight, I went downstairs to my music room and wrote something with the Korg iMS-20 and Moog Animoog iPad apps, and of course my drum set. I’m also still figuring our my recording setup, now that I’m no longer recording through ...
This year I turned 30, and my wife Hallie threw me the best surprise party ever! It was awesome! Everything from best friends since elementary school and beyond, to close family members, to a snare birthday cake; it was a party I will never forget. I could write a whole post about the party alone, ...
So much has happened since the last time we posted Sleeping/Dreaming almost a month ago. We will share all of the details soon, but to give you an idea, Danielle surprised me for my 30th birthday and we actually got to practice together for the first time in over 3 years. It was awesome! We’ll ...
We just finished another song, it’s called “Sleeping/Dreaming.” Let us know what you think. But before it was a song, it started with a few sound ideas, a riff and beat.
It has been several days since my last post… I might say that I have been out of the loop… but that’s only because I have been in the loop, the RC-30 loop, that is! Last weekend I sprung for this gorgeous monstrosity of a loop station. Since I have never used a loop station ...
We are so very excited to share our very first song, hope you enjoy. Listen to and download the track below or visit bicyclesinflight.bandcamp.com
A while ago, I wrote the beat below: I was hoping that Danielle would be able to write a guitar part to it, and tonight we figured it out. Sleeping/Dreaming is the name of the track. Danielle will be sharing her parts soon. We even have lyrics already, which is awesome. We should have three ...
We recorded parts of “As They Were” over a year ago. I’m really excited to finish this song. The whole song is pretty awesome, but Danielle’s riff at the end is amazing. I decided to revisit my original drum parts. I like what I did for Danielle’s riff at the end, but had to change ...
Unsteady could be our Title Track. Still a work in progress, but I have some preliminary lyrics in mind. We were young, riding our bicycles to and from green grass yards, watching clouds float above. All the things we thought we could be, side-by-side on Saturday, watching MTV. Away we go Wheels spinning out of ...
Yesterday Eric and I had our first official band practice since the launch of our new site and the re-initiation of Bicycles in Flight! It went super smoothly. I remember when we had our first skype practice, it was quite bittersweet. We were SO close, but yet, SO far away. I didn’t feel that way ...
Four days ago, Danielle wrote this guitar part: I immediately thought of a beat for the second part, but wasn’t able to record it right away. I was finally able to record tonight. Second Part But I couldn’t’ figure out what to do for the first part. So I practiced for about an hour, ...
A 5 min switch from manuscript keying to yamaha keying. My keying (perhaps manuscript as well as yamaha) needs desperate practice! But hey, little by little, for now.
Well, here goes nothing. Forty-eight hours ago I picked up my guitar for the first time in 4 months. I was in the cycle, and not the good kind. Thoughts like, “I haven’t practiced, I am going to sound horrible” kept me from practicing and ensured that I would in fact sound horrible. Then, of ...
I think I found a nice outro for 11/3/11.
Old friends, good friends, best friends, always pick up right where they left off. It’s how you know, undeniably, that your friendship will last forever. No matter how much time has passed, through changes big and small, if you can pick up right where you left off, that’s all that matters. I am absolutely ecstatic ...
I wrote this drum beat for one of the last Hot Box songs ever created. Thankfully we have a recording from a show at the Middle East in Boston that includes this song. I was listening to it the other day and decided this drum part can’t die. This was recorded to a metronome at ...
I’m so excited to get Bicycles in Flight going again with Danielle. She’s always been a source of musical creative inspiration for me. That’s actually where this song came from. One of the original Bicycles in Flight songs from almost two years ago that Danielle wrote inspired this part. Just wait until we add her ...
In October of 2007 in Boston, Danielle Stolzenberg and Eric Kogelschatz met for the first time. That was the first day of an awesome two-year journey with their band Hot Box and the beginning of a lifelong friendship. After the band broke up and everyone went their separate ways. Danielle and Eric dreamed of playing ...
